A motorcyclist has died after her bike slammed into a kerb on a northern Hong Kong road that is known for being a notorious black spot for traffic accidents.
Police said on Monday the woman, 47, was riding her motorcycle along Sha Tau Kok-bound Bride’s Pool Road in Tai Po when the crash occurred at around 11.30pm the previous day.
“Upon approaching Wang Chung Stream, the motorcycle reportedly went out of control and rammed into a kerb,” the force said.
The rider suffered chest injuries and was transferred to Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin, according to police.
The force said the woman died in hospital at 2.58am.
Officers from the New Territories North traffic unit are following up on the case.

Police appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to contact officers on 3661 3800.
The location of the crash is between two sites on Bride’s Pool Road that are listed as accident black spots. The road spans more than 7km (4.3 miles) between Sha Tau Kok and Tai Po.
A source said there were more than 15 of these non-junction traffic black spots across the city as of July this year, with two of them located on Bride’s Pool Road, near Nam Hang Mei in Sha Tau Kok and Chung Pui in Tai Po.
In October 2021, two motorists were killed and five people injured in a traffic accident that involved a Lamborghini, two other cars and a motorcycle on the Sha Tau Kok section of Bride’s Pool Road.
The Lamborghini was driven by a businessman, 41, heading uphill towards Tai Po while a Toyota Corolla, a Honda Civic and a motorcycle were travelling in the opposite direction towards Sha Tau Kok.
The Corolla allegedly crossed the opposite lane and slammed into the Lamborghini. After the head-on collision, the Corolla shot up into the air, landed on the Civic and bounced forward before flipping on its head and crashing to a halt. The motorcyclist was unable to avoid the crash and suffered minor injuries.
The drivers of the Lamborghini and Corolla died. Police arrested the driver of the Civic on suspicion of dangerous driving.
According to police figures, the number of people killed or seriously injured in traffic accidents across the city in the first nine months of this year was 606, down 37 per cent from 965 over the same period in 2023.
