The force on Saturday evening confirmed an arrest had taken place on Thursday after a resident filed a report at around 2pm that the bird had been injured by a man who threw a stone at it in San Po Kong, Kowloon.

Concern group Hong Kong Pigeon Research said on social media that a member had seen an elderly man in an orange shirt attack a pigeon on a tree in Shung Ling Street Playground.

The pigeon fell to the ground after being struck and died in about 45 minutes. A police report was then filed. The man was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty.

The group said it also saw another man throw a stone at a different pigeon at around 2.15pm but the bird managed to escape uninjured.
