Doctor cleared in Hong Kong case held in India amid rape-murder probe; worked ‘few days’ in city
Dr Sandip Ghosh held over alleged corruption after probe into murder-rape of student in Kolkata hospital where he was principal
Indian media reported Dr Sandip Ghosh, who is believed to have only worked in Hong Kong for a few days, was arrested last week by the country’s Central Bureau of Investigation on suspicion of corruption linked to his tenure as a principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, a government-run facility in Kolkata.
His name matches that of an Indian orthopaedist who appeared in a Hong Kong court in 2017 over allegations he molested a male nursing student at Queen Elizabeth Hospital while working in the city on an exchange programme.
A medical sector source said he only worked at the Yau Ma Tei hospital very briefly, with his two-month clinical exchange programme cancelled due to the trial.
“Due to the lawsuit, the hospital stopped his posting and therefore he actually only worked there for a few days,” the insider said.
The Post could not immediately confirm whether the same doctor was involved in both cases.
