Flying debris after crane collapses injures 5 workers at construction site in Hong Kong

Accident occurred when the crane was lifting a heavy item at construction site, insider says

Five workers in Hong Kong’s New Territories escaped serious injury when a crane arm collapsed on the roof of a building under construction, but sustained minor wounds from flying debris.

Emergency personnel were called at around 3.18pm on Tuesday after the accident at a construction site at the junction of Lok Ma Chau Road and Castle Peak Road.

A source familiar with the matter said the five men were working on the roof of the building at the time of the incident.

“The accident occurred when a crane was lifting a heavy item,” the insider said. “A preliminary investigation suggested the crane arm collapsed on the rooftop, injuring five workers.”

He said the men suffered injuries to their legs, while a police spokeswoman said the workers were hit by flying debris.
