A 24-second video from a car camera, shared widely on social media on Thursday, captured a blue pickup truck running over a dog while turning right into a side street near Kung Um Road in Yuen Long, leaving the scene without stopping.

The dog was seen being dragged underneath the vehicle and rolled over by the wheels. It hobbled to the roadside after struggling to get up.

The force said it received two calls from passers-by, with the first one reporting about the injured dog at 3pm on Thursday.

A second call around 4.30pm was from a witness who saw the crash involving a light commercial vehicle and later returned to the scene about 4pm to find that the dog had died.

The force said officers were deployed to the scene and were investigating the case, which was listed as “damage only traffic accidents” with a hit-and-run allegation.
