A study naming Singapore the world’s safest city for tourists and Hong Kong the 13th has prompted a local lawmaker to call for more CCTV cameras and tighter laws.

Forbes Advisor earlier this week released the list that analysed 60 cities across the globe on a 100-point scale – with 100 being the most severe risk – based on factors such as crime rate, personal safety, service quality and online attack risk.

Singapore scored 0 points, and boasted the lowest natural disaster risk and the second lowest health and infrastructure risks.

Hong Kong, meanwhile, scored 32.93 overall, behind Taiwanese capital Taipei with 32.91 points.

Tokyo claimed the second spot on the list, with Toronto, Sydney and Zurich completing the top five.

The city lagged behind regional rival Singapore in personal security – risks arising from violence, natural disasters and economic vulnerabilities – and digital security, referring to risks from online attacks or identity theft.
