5 Hong Kong students, 1 bus driver injured in 4-vehicle pile-up on highway

Five primary school pupils and a bus driver were injured in a four-vehicle pile-up on a highway on Hong Kong Island on Friday afternoon.

Police said a private car, a taxi and two school buses collided along a section of the Island Eastern Corridor in North Point at 2.28pm.

Three pupils and the driver from the first bus, as well as two pupils on the second bus, were injured.

The force did not make any arrests at the scene.

The injured driver had reported feeling chest pains, a headache and a bleeding finger, while three pupils, aged between nine to 11, sported swollen or scraped foreheads.

Emergency responders rushed the group to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in Chai Wan.

The buses were both at full capacity before they the first one collided with the second vehicle. The school bus then struck the taxi and the private car in a chain effect, according to a source with knowledge of the matter.
