A Hong Kong man has been arrested in connection with the death of his girlfriend, 56, after a domestic dispute over personal belongings escalated into a fight in Fanling.

Brian Chung Chi-keung, an assistant commander of Tai Po district, said on Saturday the force received a report from the man at 5.23pm about a dispute with his girlfriend at a lower-floor flat at Wah Min House, Wah Sum Estate.

According to police, the girlfriend lost consciousness after she fell to the ground and suffered a head injury.

“At 5.33pm, first responders confirmed that the [woman] had died on the spot,” he said. “There were many bruises on the deceased’s body, most of which were on the upper body.”

The commander added that no wounds caused by sharp objects were observed, but the cause of death still needed further forensic examination to determine.

Chung said the couple’s argument started on Friday night.

The 59-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder, he said.
