Suspected Hong Kong gangster arrested in connection with murder of man dumped at hospital

A suspected Hong Kong triad member has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 23-year-old man who was dumped outside a public hospital with multiple injuries.

The victim, who was unemployed, was seen on security footage being carried out of a car by two men and abandoned in the street at around 5.45am on Saturday.

The man, who lived in Sau Mau Ping, was rushed into North District Hospital in Sheng Shui for emergency treatment, but died at at 6.40am.

Acting senior superintendent Basil Tang Yick-kay said the injured man was found at a pedestrian crossing on Po Kin Road.

A preliminary examination found he had suffered injuries that could have been inflicted by blunt objects, or punches and kicks.

Police got a call from a member of the public about the discovery of a car that could be linked to the case at Wong Chuk Yuen in Pat Heung at about 7pm on Sunday.

Investigators found bloodstains and a stun gun inside the vehicle, which had false number plates.

Police traced the car’s owner in Tin Shui Wai shortly afterwards and the 32-year-old was arrested.

Tang, of the New Territories North regional headquarters, said on Monday that investigations continued.

“We are looking into the motives and the deceased’s background and activities,” he added.

“We believe there are still persons linked to the case who are at large.”

Tang said the case could be connected to a financial dispute.

He added that police had still to establish the relationship between the victim and suspect.

Police said a postmortem would be carried out.
