A dog on a leash escaped being strangled to death in a Hong Kong block of flats on Monday after its owner got into a lift and the pet stayed outside.
A video captured the incident and showed the schnauzer being dragged up and struggling in the air before it was spotted by a security guard who immediately stopped the lift.
The footage also showed the animal struggling for about 10 seconds before it broke free from the leash. It can be seen to fall about two metres (6.5 feet) and run away.
Police said the incident happened in the ground floor lift lobby of the Boundary Building on Tung Chau Street in Sham Shui Po just after 10.30am.
After seeing the dog pulled to the top of the door, the security guard said he activated the emergency switch to stop the lift.
“The dog kept struggling with the leash, but it didn’t bark at all,” the 65-year-old guard, who only gave his surname, Wu, said.
