Amina Bokhary, niece of top Hong Kong judge, charged with cocaine possession

A woman with a renowned family name whose legal problems have earned her citywide notoriety was charged on Wednesday with drug possession.

Amina Mariam Bokhary, the niece of Court of Final Appeal judge Kemal Bokhary, was accused of carrying a 0.14 gram of cocaine inside a plastic bag she had with her at Queen’s Road in Central on May 11.

Bokhary was charged in Eastern Court with one count of possession of a dangerous drug. She was not required to make a plea.

Principal Magistrate Bina Chainrai said she would recuse herself from the case and pass it to a colleague. She did not give a reason.

The case was adjourned to October 4 and Bokhary was released on a cash bail of HK$500 (US$64).

According to reports, Chainrai is a close friend of the Bokhary family.
