The park’s indoor 10,000-seat Kai Tak Arena will host a test event with two basketball games on Saturday.

A Sunday drill involving 12,000 individuals will assess transport arrangements of both the arena and the nearby 5,000-seat Youth Sports Ground, including special bus routes and taxi drop-off points.

Rosanna Law Shuk-pui, the new secretary for culture, sports and tourism, stressed on Thursday that it was critical to ensure thorough preparations for the Kai Tak Sports Park before its opening in March.

“[Preparation] involves a series of tests of varying scales and scenarios to ensure all stakeholders conduct early drills and have contingency plans,” Law said.

“We also need to organise the National Games well, allowing Hong Kong athletes and national competitors to showcase their abilities and help foster a stronger sense of national identity among Hong Kong residents.”
