Hong Kong is second-ranked locale where UK travellers spend under budget: study
British travel management firm cites data showing UK travellers set aside £108 daily for a Hong Kong trip, but actually spent only £42
Hong Kong is one of the top destinations where UK travellers spent under their budgets due to the city’s range of affordable options and free attractions, as well as a strong British pound, a study by a corporate travel management firm has found.
British company Good Travel Management on Monday cited a study it released in September showing that Hong Kong was the second-ranked locale where Britons least overspent in relation to their budgets, after the Caribbean island country Barbados.
UK travellers would set aside a daily budget of £108 (US$140) for a Hong Kong trip but actually spent only £42 per day in the city, or £66 less than planned, the study showed.
“While Hong Kong is renowned for its luxury shopping and upscale dining, the city’s true appeal for budget-conscious travellers lies in its wide range of affordable options,” the company said.
“Hong Kong’s many free attractions, such as scenic hikes, vibrant street markets and cultural landmarks like the iconic Tsim Sha Tsui promenade, mean that you don’t need to break the bank to enjoy all the city has to offer.”
The firm also attributed the difference to a stronger British pound against the Hong Kong dollar, which offered better value for UK travellers.
