Ex-CEO of Hong Kong’s Cyberport tapped to lead Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises
Peter Yan’s new role will involve reaching out to at least 350 enterprises by 2025 to encourage them to establish or expand local operations
The former CEO of a major Hong Kong technology park has been appointed by the government to steer an office tasked with attracting companies from targeted fields to the city.
Peter Yan King-shun, who led the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company from 2018 to earlier this year, will take on the position of director general at the Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises (OASES) starting Tuesday.
He is also a member of three committees under the city’s stock exchange.
“Yan possesses rich experience and extensive knowledge in the field of information technology and has frequently communicated and collaborated with stakeholders from strategic industries,” Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po said on Monday in a statement announcing the appointment.
“I am confident that Mr Yan will lead [the office] in attracting more strategic enterprises to Hong Kong, thereby contributing to the city’s innovation and technology development as well as its economic upgrading and transformation.”
Yan has more than 39 years of experience in the technology sector, having also served as the executive director and CEO of Sunevision, the technology arm of developer Sun Hung Kai Properties, according to the government.
