More than 8,000 cruise passengers have been invited to Hong Kong’s Wine and Dine Festival, which opened on Wednesday evening, in the biggest collaboration between the city’s tourism promotion body and the cruise industry, the Post has learned.

Sources said the passengers would arrive in Hong Kong on Thursday on three cruise liners. Many will visit the festival and also take a tour on the city’s famous Star Ferry vessels. The three cruise liners are Silver Nova, Coral Princess and Costa Serena.

Silver Nova will call in Hong Kong for the first time and dock at Ocean Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui. The other two will dock at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal.

“There is a new and special source of visitors to the Wine and Dine Festival, which will bring in a greater variety of participants,” one source said.

The insider added that the number could have been even higher, but a fourth cruise that was supposed to arrive on Thursday had been cancelled because of Tropical Storm Trami.

The cruise passengers hail from 30 jurisdictions and the Tourism Board’s invitation for them to attend the festival marked the biggest collaboration between the body and the cruise sector.
