The park revealed on Sunday that Ying Ying had shown marked changes in her diet during her post-partum recovery.

Ying Ying, aged 19, the equivalent to 57 in human years, became the world’s oldest captive giant panda to give birth on August 15, to a female and a male cub. The father is Le Le, also 19, the park’s other giant panda.

“Due to Ying Ying’s changing taste preferences, caretakers will closely monitor her daily food choices and prepare different meals accordingly,” the park said on its social media pages.

It said Ying Ying now preferred the base rather than the whole bamboo shoot.

It said caretakers rolled bamboo leaves into small shapes and added her favourite apples, and high fibre biscuit, to encourage her to eat more fibre.
