Hong Kong business executives are anticipating making easier family trips to mainland China thanks to a new multi-entry travel permit, while the city’s immigration authorities have revealed they have received about 10,000 applications for a special certificate needed for the application.

Anish Lalvani, chairman of wholesaler Euro Suisse International, told the Post he would be applying for the new permit along with his wife and 18-year-old son.

He said the new permit would speed up border clearance processes for his family, as their British and American passports did not qualify for visa-free entry to the mainland.

“Immigration procedures going to China, despite ‘one country, two systems’, can be time-consuming,” Lalvani said, referring to the principle governing ties between the city and the central government.

“This new multi-entry permit will make that much quicker, and therefore trips, especially to Guangdong province, become much easier to do without too much planning.”

The businessman said he hoped to take day trips and weekend getaways to the southern mainland once the permit was issued, anticipating spending less time at border checkpoints.
