The signboard of Sheikh Ali Rashed Ali Saeed Al Maktoum’s Hong Kong family office is no longer on display at its Sheung Wan premises, days after a Dubai-based protocol chief said its CEO was not authorised to talk on the prince’s behalf.

A Post reporter visited the office on Tuesday morning and found the office sign bearing Maktoum’s name was missing. It had been in place on a wall in the reception area since March and until at least last Tuesday.

Marco Carenzi, head of protocol and security management of the Dubai-based office of the sheikh, provided no information on the status of the Hong Kong office in a brief email reply.

“Thanks for letting us know. As I [said], it will be my pleasure to keep you posted,” he said.

Eleanor Jane Mak, who spoke to the Post in her capacity as the vice-chairman and CEO of the Hong Kong-based family office last Tuesday to discuss the sheikh’s plan to return to the city, said on Wednesday that she had “no comment”.

Maktoum made headlines after he called off the inauguration ceremony for his office at the eleventh hour in March due to “some urgent unexpected private matters”. His office later said the ceremony would be held at the end of May.

The Post also reported that the sheikh apparently had an alter ego as singer-songwriter Alira, who had built up a following of Filipino fans, before switching to investments sometime last year.
