The Hong Kong Observatory said on Friday temperatures were expected to range between 18 and 23 degrees on Saturday, falling to 16 degrees on Sunday. The maximum temperature is forecast to reach 20 degrees.

“The minimum temperature will fall to around 16 to 17 degrees in the urban areas, and a couple of degrees lower in the New Territories on Sunday and Monday,” the Observatory said.

The weather forecaster attributed the temperature drop to a gradually strengthening northeast monsoon that was affecting southern China.

It added that temperatures in the region were expected to fall progressively in the latter part of next week under the influence of another monsoon surge. It will be cool in the morning and at night.
