Hotter weather expected in Hong Kong as Super Typhoon Krathon approaches
Krathon enters within 800km of city and is expected to make landfall in Taiwan on Wednesday
Hong Kong is expected to experience very hot weather until at least Tuesday under the influence of approaching Super Typhoon Krathon, which the forecaster has said will not pose a direct threat to the city.
The Observatory said at noon on Monday that Krathon had entered within 800km (497 miles) of the city and was expected to make landfall over the southern part of Taiwan on Wednesday.
“According to the present forecast, it will move across the Luzon Strait and enter the northeastern part of the South China Sea, then gradually track northwards [on Tuesday],” the forecaster said.
“It will make landfall over the southern part of Taiwan on Wednesday, then move across Taiwan, maintaining a distance of over 500km from Hong Kong.
“Its direct threat to Hong Kong is not high. However, under the influence of its outer subsiding air, the weather will be very hot over southern China today and tomorrow.”
According to the forecast, the temperature in the city is expected to rise to 33 degrees Celsius (91.4 Fahrenheit) on Tuesday.
