Hong Kong’s first Chinese medicine hospital can serve as a showcase of collaborative efforts between Western and traditional methods to the world, the city’s health minister has said in advance of the facility’s phased opening in late 2025.
The government-funded hospital on Wednesday signed an agreement with the Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine to cooperate in areas such as joint talent exchanges, setting up a database and development of a scientific research network.
Secretary for Health Lo Chung-mau said the collaboration with the Guangdong hospital, a state-level institution, would take Chinese medicine in Hong Kong to “new heights”.
“With the rich experience and technology sharing from the [Guangdong hospital], I believe that the Chinese Medicine Hospital of Hong Kong will be able to launch its services smoothly,” he said at the signing ceremony.
“Hong Kong’s Chinese medicine sector should seize the opportunity to capitalise on our characteristics and strengths … to demonstrate the value of traditional Chinese medicine and the collaboration between Chinese and Western medicine to the world.”
