From grooming future leaders to providing students with a positive learning environment, a Hong Kong charity has made plans to equip its beneficiaries with lifelong skills and training opportunities.
Back in September, non-profit Wofoo Foundation was one of two donors to the annual NGO Leadership Programme organised by Chinese University’s social work department and Swiss investment bank UBS.
Wofoo provided half of the HK$800,000 (US$102,600) in funding to programme winners ImpactHK, which supports the city’s homeless, and Teach For Hong Kong, which offers a fellowship to provide schools with training for emotional management and compassionate communication.
The charity planned to use the NGO Leadership Programme to connect with other non-profit organisations and expand its philanthropic footprint, said Phoebe Wan Tak-yan, senior project manager of resources and corporate planning at sister branch Wofoo Social Enterprises (WSE).
“We hope to connect with social purposes that our city needs rather than just establishing business partnerships,” she said.
WSE director Christina Maisenne Lee said that both winners of the programme had aligned with its mission of “not just giving the beneficiaries a fish, but actually teaching them to fish”.
