Storm Trami: Hong Kong to issue T1 warning at 1.40am on Friday
Observatory says Severe Tropical Storm Trami will soon enter within 800km of Hong Kong
Hong Kong will issue the No 1 typhoon warning signal at 1.40am on Friday as Severe Tropical Storm Trami edges closer to the city.
The Observatory said that as Trami would enter within 800km (497 miles) of Hong Kong soon, the No 1 signal would be issued.
Trami was expected to move towards the vicinity of Hainan Island gradually, it said.
The forecaster said it would consider the need to issue the No 3 warning signal later on Friday or Saturday, depending on Trami’s movement and the change in local wind conditions.
Trami is a Vietnamese word for a tree in the rose family.
Earlier in the day, Hong Kong recorded its lowest temperature yet this autumn under the influence of a strong northeast monsoon, with the mercury dropping to 22 degrees Celsius (71.6 Fahrenheit) at 6am on Thursday.
