Never give up, chief secretary advises students
Chief secretary urges students never to give up
Chief Secretary Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor (second row, fifth from left) joins students throwing paper planes during the Never Give Up Association's "Cheer Up Party" at Baptist University yesterday. Lam told students who will receive their Diploma of Secondary Education scores this week not to give up even if the results are not what they hoped for. Lam cited the failed electoral reform package as an example of her own disappointment after she did her best to push it forward. She also said that when students choose what they were going to study in university, they should consider what they were interested in and not be influenced by anyone, including their parents. The government No 2 also stressed that the administration would not re-launch its reform package during the rest of its term, but instead would focus on developing the economy. She expressed the hope of establishing a better relationship with moderate pan-democrats and having more direct communication with teenagers in the future, as she realised after the Occupy Central protest last year, officials and parents may not have a good grasp of what young people were thinking.
