A group described as “pro-Communist” by the Falun Gong tabloid Epoch Times gathered for a rally on Monday and marched from North Point to government headquarters in Admiralty to denounce what they call a cult.

About 100 members of the Hong Kong Youth Care Association paraded down the streets in lime-green T-shirts, shouting “Eliminate Falun Gong” and “Celebrate Mid-autumn, Welcome National Day”.

The purpose of the rally was to counteract Falun Gong’s anti-Communist protest also on Monday, said a member who was wearing a “supervisor” badge.

“National Day should be a festive occasion, yet the Falun Gong members are ruining it by throwing alleged insults at the [Communist] Party. Participants today are all volunteers,” he said.

When asked for more information about the group, he said: “We want to promote the right values to young people in Hong Kong. Falun Gong is a cult, and we want people to stay away from it.” Falun Gong is a spiritual movement that is banned on the mainland.
