The owner of a luxury car in southwestern China has been fined 500 yuan (HK$560) for illegally replacing his vehicle’s bonnet ornament with a model of a cartoon panda made of plasticine, mainland media reported.
Zhang Lin claimed to have made the model for his 7 million yuan Bentley Mulsanne to woo a woman whose online food company used a panda as the logo for one of her products, the Chongqing Evening News reported.

Traffic police in Chongqing issued Zhang with a motoring ticket on Monday after noticing the car was fitted with the plasticine model of a panda on its bonnet instead of the chrome Flying B ornament that should have been there.
He claimed to have fallen in love with Li Xia after noticing her at a party in October and had then begun to pursue her by buying 50,000 yuan worth of her goods, the report said.

However, his efforts are likely to cost him a further 100,000 yuan in labour costs after being ordered to restore the vehicle’s original ornament, the report said.
A sticker of a panda was also found stuck to the back of the car.
Zhang, whose father heads an investment company, said it had taken him three days to make the plasticine panda ornament for the car.
Police told him it was against traffic laws to change the appearance of the vehicle.
Zhang paid the fine at the traffic police station in Chongqing’s Liangjiang New Area later the same day.
