A travel journal posted online with personal experiences of avoiding fake tourist attractions in Xian such as a false terracotta warrior site has gone viral among China’s online community.
Using the alias “Vigor Mianmian Bear”, the writer describes vividly how to dodge the tourist traps of fake places of interests, the Southern Metropolis reported.
State media including CCTV had previously exposed the chaotic management of Xian’s tourism industry.
A fake terracotta warrior site called the “Hall of the World’s Eighth Wonder” is one of the places described. It features colourful warrior statues with “double-lid eyes” and “red lips”.

Fake Greek sculptures were also on display.
Another site called the “Qin Tomb Underground Palace” was an underground space of around 200 square meters, the report said. Its four walls were lined with wax statues and the sand displays in the middle of the room included replicas of the terracotta warriors, and a coffin.
The Shaanxi tourism bureau denied any association with the featured sites and vowed to tackle fake tour sites in October 2016.
