Chinese man uses fake gun in mahjong parlour robbery, hoping to evade a debt by going to jail

A man in eastern China who used a fake gun to rob a mahjong parlour, said he did so intending to go to jail to evade a debt to a loan shark.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, the man, surnamed Zhu, walked into the mahjong parlour in Zhengjiang, Jiangsu province, news portal Thepaper.cn reported.
Wearing a mask and brandishing a gun and an electrical baton, Zhu subdued the seven people inside and robbed them of a total of 10,000 yuan (US$1,440).
He made his getaway in a black sedan.

By tracing the car, the police tracked Zhu to his home, where they recovered the weapons. The gun turned out to be a fake loaded with what appeared to be a metal clip.
