The snake was spotted on Tuesday afternoon in Youxi county in Fujian province, the county TV station said.

Police were called who later brought a snake catcher as they were unable to coax the python out of its hole.

The snake , measuring 3.7 metres and weighing 23 kg, was eventually caught, the report said.

Police said the python was not injured and was later released into the wild, according to the article.
