New | Chinese man pours petrol over nurse in hospital lift, tries to set her on fire after mother’s death
The man’s mother, a patient, left the hospital last month only to turn up dead near a river weeks later
A Chinese man has been arrested after he assaulted a hospital nurse, doused her with petrol and tried to set her on fire, according to local media reports.
The man, from Baoji, western China’s Shaanxi province, was in a lift with the nurse in Baoji Central Hospital when he pulled her to the floor, poured petrol over her and threatened to burn down the hospital, Chinese Business View reported.

The shocked nurse, Li Ming, with her hair and clothes all drenched in pungent petrol, screamed for help as the lift doors opened on the third floor.
Li struggled to kick the petrol can away from the man, identified only by his surname Da, but he reacted by hitting her repeatedly on the head.

It was not clear how the nurse was doing after the ordeal. Da has been placed in custody as police investigate the matter.
