A motorist has been detained by police after a car crashed into a group of parents and children outside a primary school in the central Chinese province of Hunan.
Police in the city of Changde said the incident happened at around 7.35am on Tuesday.
State news agency Xinhua reported that several pupils had been injured in the incident but there has been no word on the number of casualties.
Police said the injured were receiving treatment and none were in a life-threatening condition.
The suspect was a 39-year-old man surnamed Huang, police said.
The driver was reportedly apprehended by parents and school guards after the white SUV rammed into the crowds outside the school.

The incident follows a series of violent incidents in recent days, including the death of eight people in a knife attack on Saturday at a college in Yixing in the eastern province of Jiangsu, where a 21-year-old suspect was detained.
That attack took place just days after a car rammed into crowds of people exercising at a stadium in Zhuhai in Guangdong province, killing at least 35 and injuring 43, raising concerns over social stability.
Meanwhile, a man has died after a brawl involving a knife in the southwestern province of Sichuan, according to police in Chengdu, the provincial capital.
A 35-year-old man surnamed Zhu has been placed in criminal detention following the attack, which police said took place after a traffic dispute.
Police said Zhu had been riding an electric bike when he got involved in an argument with the driver of a car and two passengers, in which the driver’s husband was fatally injured.
There have been several attacks near schools in China this year, most recently on October 28 when five people, including three children, were stabbed near a primary school in Beijing’s Haidian district.
Earlier that month three people, including two pupils, were attacked by a man wielding a knife in the southern city of Guangzhou. A 60-year-old man was detained following the attack.

In May two people died and 10 were injured in another knife attack at a primary school in Jiangxi province. It was not clear if children were among the casualties.
Following the car attack in Zhuhai, authorities have stepped up security measures and urged officials to nip any social instability in the bud.
On Tuesday, the country’s top prosecution body held a meeting, where risk assessment and prevention measures around schools were discussed.
When asked about the recent incidents, foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian said the government “will continue to take effective measures to protect the lives of people and social stability, and will also effectively protect safety of all foreigners in China”.


At a meeting last Wednesday, the Ministry of Public Security urged police across the country to “resolve conflicts at the grass-roots level” to prevent “extreme cases”.
Other senior officials, including President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang have also called for action to prevent risk.
On Saturday, the Guangdong provincial Communist Party committee held a meeting about the handling of the attack and demanded that police “strengthen patrols at key locations and crowded places”.
Meanwhile officials in other cities including Beijing, Dandong in Liaoning, and Lianyungang and Suqian in Jiangsu have also met to discuss social stability.
