Update | Aide to China’s top security chief Zhou Yongkang jailed for 12 years on graft charges

A court in China has sentenced a former top aide to the country’s jailed security chief Zhou Yongkang to 12 years in prison for corruption, state broadcaster China Central Television reported on its social media account on Tuesday.

Li Chongxi, once the top political adviser in the southwestern province of Sichuan, one of Zhou’s old strongholds, was indicted on corruption charges in April.

He is among a slew of former Zhou allies to face punishment for graft amid a sweeping anti-corruption campaign by the ruling Communist Party’s leadership.

Zhou was sentenced to life in jail in June on charges of taking bribes, abuse of power and intentionally leaking state secrets.
