Germany’s Angela Merkel asks China to resume human rights dialogue
- Chancellor makes the request during the latest of her consultations with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang
- Li says their meeting, held virtually, shows the importance to China of relations with Germany
“I would hope that we could also get the human rights dialogue going again as soon as possible,” she said.
He said China and Germany had differing views on some issues over what constituted an “objective fact”, but could still work together.
“As long as both sides respect each other’s core interests and major concerns, communicate and exchange on the basis of equal treatment and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, increase trust and clear doubts, narrow the differences and focus on cooperation, favourable conditions can be created for further smooth dialogue and cooperation,” Li said.
He said both sides should focus on the long-term health and stable development of relations for the next 50 years, and “exclude unnecessary interference”.
