According to Angel Manero Campos, Zhao Zenglian, vice-minister of the General Administration of Customs, is set to visit Lima on September 21. Zhao and others will inspect the production and processing of export-bound Peruvian dried fruit and grains.

Their aim is to assess whether the products comply with Chinese health regulations and whether local protocols must be updated.

If approved, the audited Peruvian companies could bring in an export volume of up to US$100 million for the Asian economic giant, Manero Campos said.

“This visit is the result of our good relations with the Chinese government, cemented by the visit of President [Dina] Boluarte,” the minister said in a statement.

Peru hoped to “gain access” to the Chinese market for frozen fruits, pomegranates and pecans, he added.
