The vast majority of Asian-Americans plan to vote in November’s US presidential election and a plurality said they would vote for the incumbent Joe Biden over his predecessor Donald Trump, a survey released on Wednesday found.

The economy, inflation, healthcare and crime were among the most important election issues for Asian-American voters, according to the survey conducted by APIAVote, AAPI Data, Asian Americans Advancing Justice and AARP.

While many of these issues mirrored what the overall American population prioritised, the community was especially concerned about education, language assistance, how history is taught and hate crimes.

And nearly three times as many respondents viewed Democrats as doing a better job countering racism than Republicans, the survey found.

The findings underscored the growing importance of Asian-Americans on the US political stage as they more forcefully demand their rights and push their priorities into the spotlight, the survey’s organisers said.
