The wife of fallen political star Ling Jihua's brother-in-law has been taken away for questioning, amid a widening corruption probe centred on the ex-aide to former president Hu Jintao.
Luo Fanghua, a 46-year-old producer at state broadcaster CCTV, was detained late last month, ThePaper.cn cited several people at her workplace as saying.
Luo is married to Gu Yuanxu, the brother of Gu Liping, who is Ling's wife.
The reason for her detention was not given, but it comes after Ling was detained for "suspected serious disciplinary violations", the Communist Party's anti-graft agency announced last month.
Luo and her husband both worked for the same programme at China Central Television in the 1990s. In 2000, she transferred to the broadcaster's business channel and was quickly promoted.
"Everybody knew she was tied to the Ling family, so people let her do [what she liked]," ThePaper.cn cited an unidentified former colleague as saying.
Gu Yuanxu was later promoted to deputy police chief of Heilongjiang in 2010. His last reported public appearance was at a meeting in Shenyang in Liaoning about police cooperation in northeastern provinces on December 5.
Prominent mainland news outlet Caixin reported he was expected to face questioning over alleged corruption.
Ling was on a fast track to the Politburo Standing Committee, until 2012, when his son died in a Ferrari crash in Beijing. Ling allegedly tried to engineer a cover-up of the accident. Luo's career was affected as well. She was no longer involved in the channel's core business, and instead was put in charge of programme packaging, ThePaper.cn said.
While at CCTV, Luo became acquainted with a future relative, Li Ping, a programme anchor who would go on to marry Ling's younger brother, Ling Wancheng. Since last year, at least eight people working for the CCTV business channel have been detained, including two of Luo's former supervisors and a colleague, famous anchor, Rui Chenggang. On Friday, another two cadres associated with Ling were revealed to be under investigation - top intelligence official Ma Jian and Huo Ke ,
