Malaysian student who hid newborn baby in suitcase convicted of murder in UK
The jury rejected Teo Jia Xin’s defence that she had been hearing voices instructing her to dispose of the child
A Malaysian student was convicted of murder in Britain for killing her newborn baby.
Teo Jia Xin, 22, pleaded guilty to the charge after the body of the baby was found stuffed in a cereal box and hidden in a suitcase.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said Teo carried the baby to full term and gave birth on March 4.
She later placed the baby in a cereal box and then placed it inside a sealable plastic bag and stored it in a suitcase, the BBC reported.
Prosecutors said the baby was still alive after birth and Teo knew the child would die after being placed in the box.
West Midlands policemen were called to Teo’s residence two days after she visited a hospital showing signs of having given birth.
