University student S. Kirthika, 22, died in February after getting stung by wasps at her flat in Taman Harmoni, the Malaysia Nanban reported.

Council workers responded by cutting down a nearby tree believed to be home to the pests, but the problem persisted.

Kirthika’s father, S. Sathiakumar, expressed deep concern over the persistent wasp problem affecting residents of Block 16 in the flat complex, which is managed by the Ipoh City Council.

He said people had been complaining about the wasps for some time.
