Galaxy Macau Phase II opens up new worlds of luxury, entertainment, dining and accommodation
Mega-resort in Cotai adds three full-service hotels and expands the Grand Resort Deck
Ever since the Venetian Macao resort started the casino boom in the city over 10 years ago, the landscape of Cotai has been continuously changing. For this year and beyond, a new wave of mega resort-casinos are in the works, and the first to debut in May was Galaxy Entertainment Group's Galaxy Macau Phase II.
Expanding the complex to 1.1 million square metres, this is the first major resort opening in Macau since 2012 and cost HK$43 billion out of a HK$100 billion planned investment for Galaxy Entertainment Group. This means Galaxy Macau has doubled in size in only four years and now offers close to 4,000 rooms, adding three new world-class hotels to the existing Banyan Tree Macau, Hotel Okura Macau and Galaxy Hotel.
Aiming to offer world-class attractions and entertainment, a hit with families and the young at heart is the expanded 75,000-square-metre Grand Resort Deck, which features the world's longest skytop aquatic adventure river ride, the world's largest skytop wave pool, three water slides and Kidz Island, Macau's largest water play area for children. There is also a 350-tonne white-sand beach and other water attractions such as beach lagoons, white water rapids, geysers and waterfalls, all set in an Asian-themed tropical garden.
The Promenade shopping centre has also been extended to connect Galaxy Phase I and Phase II. Over 200 luxury and lifestyle retail brands are there, including 30 first-to-Macau brands such as Alexander McQueen, Georg Jensen, Delvaux, Harry Winston, Maje, Moncler, Mulberry, Proenza Schouler, Roger Viver and Sandro and more. New restaurants such as 8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo Bombana and Fook Lam Moon have also opened there.
