Officially opened at the end of May, The exhibition “From Lorient to the Orient - Port Cities of China and France on the 18th Century Maritime Silk Route”, organised by the Macao Museum as part of the 26th Macao Arts Festival and Le French May, will run until the end of August. The showcased items, which include textiles, costumes, oil paintings, prints, porcelain and moulds, include those on loan from various authorities in France such as the Musée de la Compagnie des Indes de Lorient and Musée national des châteaux de Versailles et de Trianon.
This event introduces visitors to Lorient, a port on the northwest Atlantic coast of France. It was through this hub that the French East India Company, established by King Louis XIV, imported many foreign goods, including silk, tea and porcelain from China. It was also because of these Eurasian trading activities that Chinoiserie became popular in Europe, extensively influencing French art works and daily commodities. Admssion MOP15.
