Meet Alex Cooper, the bold female voice behind Call Her Daddy: she’s evolving – just like her multimillion-dollar Spotify podcast – and celebs like Miley Cyrus and Hailey Bieber featured on her show
- Back in 2021, Cooper signed a three-year exclusive deal with Spotify worth US$60 million for her podcast Call Her Daddy, known and loved by fans for its candidness in exploring raunchy topics
- Now, the 29-year-old addresses issues beyond sex, like mental health and female empowerment – she even spoke to Hailey Bieber about the drama around Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber
They call themselves the Daddy Gang – the millions of fans who follow her every move, listen religiously to her podcast, and try and track her down based on clues from her Instagram Stories, that is.
Alex Cooper is a podcast phenomenon.
Now, five years down the line, Cooper is about more than just raunchy tales. She has changed – and so has her work. Here’s everything you need to know about the woman behind the need-to-download podcast.
Alex Cooper’s breakthrough start
In 2018, around a month after the first episode of Call Her Daddy, the podcast was acquired by Barstool Sports. The move was no surprise. Per Time, the podcast went from 12,000 downloads to two million in just its first two months. Fans of the podcast will know that the show has gone through massive changes since its debut. Although Cooper now handles everything solo, she used to co-host the show with her roommate and business partner, Sofia Franklyn, until 2020.
On the two-woman show, the pals would swap sex stories and comment on topics like how to get away with an affair. But things turned sour in contract negotiations with Barstool Sports, with Franklyn eventually starting her own show. The fallout attracted massive attention. Cooper told Time that it was unfairly deemed “a catfight”. “This is not a catfight,” she added. “We’re talking about a multimillion-dollar brand that is on the line.” There’s never been any true clarity on what caused the split, with speculation still bubbling years after the incident.
