DJ and model Lady Mary Charteris is one of the most talked-about socialites in the UK. However, being in the public eye has brought its fair share of scrutiny for the rebellious aristocrat.
Lately, the internet has been buzzing with the 37-year-old’s name again after Tom Bower’s recently released bombshell book The House of Beckham mentioned Charteris in connection with Victoria Beckham becoming furious about her husband’s late-night partying. So, who is this wild social butterfly who started smoking at 11, per British media, is fond of posing for risqué photos, and has earned the title of “It” girl?
She got her start in modelling through a family friend

Lady Mary Charteris is the daughter of James Charteris, 13th Earl of Wemyss and 9th Earl of March, and the Honorable Catherine Ingrid Guinness, who used to work with Andy Warhol. Her aunt, Daphne Guinness, is an English fashion designer, and her family friend, late magazine editor Isabella Blow, discovered Sophie Dahl and nurtured Alexander McQueen. It was Blow who first introduced Charteris to Storm Models, kick-starting her modelling career.
In October 2017, she told The Sun that she was not too fond of people saying she has had a privileged life. Claiming her wealth and industry connections had not “opened doors” for her, she said, “I’ve had a charmed life, but I’m not given any handouts.” The socialite even said her title had a stigma attached to it and that people made assumptions because of it.
Her party girl persona has created rifts between high-profile couples
David Beckham was reportedly introduced to Charteris at the Glastonbury music festival in 2017 by his friend, Dave Gardner. A source close to Beckham revealed that he had been partying with her until late at night at a VIP club – something that did not sit well with the missus, per British media.
It was not the first time Charteris had been accused of coming between a couple. Previously, she was named as the reason behind Kate Moss’ split from then-husband Jamie Hince. Moss was said to have become so upset over what she perceived as Charteris flirting with Hince at a party in 2013 that she had pushed the younger woman into a pool, per the same publication. Moss and Hince split up two years later, with a source claiming, per British media, that one of the reasons was Moss’ jealousy over Hince’s female friends.
