Tory Burch’s top 10 style finds: from NYC hangs to Jackie Kennedy’s sister Lee Radziwill

Since founding her eponymous label 20 years ago, American designer Tory Burch has become a global powerhouse known for bestselling accessories such as the Reva flats and the Pierced mules, as well as her impeccable taste.

Born in Pennsylvania, the globe-trotting designer – who this year was named on Time’s annual list of “The 100 Most Influential People” – has called New York home for decades, and is widely admired for her philanthropic work and her support of female entrepreneurs.

While her label has been always associated with a very East Coast preppy, boho-chic vibe, in recent years Burch has upped the fashion ante, delivering collections that have become the talk of the town at New York Fashion Week and beyond.

What I’m watching, hearing and reading

Poor Things was sublime – the sets, the writing and, of course, the costumes. I recently discovered The Great Women Artists podcast by Katy Hessel; she interviews historians and artists, and recently featured one of my favourite contemporary artists, Karon Davis. And I just re-read Milan Kundera’s The Unbearable Lightness of Being, a book I have loved for years.

The Instagram accounts I can’t stop following

I love pet and animal-related Instagram accounts, like @thedodo. I’m not into doom-scrolling … I look for uplifting content.

My daily skincare routine

Items from Dr Barbara Sturm’s skincare line

I generally have a less-is-more approach to beauty – and on some days, more! Before work, I layer a few Dr Barbara Sturm skincare products and a tinted sunscreen. If I have an event in the evening, I’ll do my make-up at my desk – a smoky Nars eyeshadow or shimmery aubergine liner.

My go-to New York hangs

Bemelmans Bar in New York

Ricari Studios for restorative lymphatic massages and facials; Bemelmans Bar for dirty martinis and live jazz; and the American Museum of Natural History, a place I have visited dozens of times but never tire of. Last September, we held our spring 2024 show in the museum’s otherworldly new wing, the Richard Gilder Centre for Science, Education and Innovation.

The ideal souvenir from my hometown

Detail of an Amish quilt made of tiny squares of fabric carefully sewn and quilted

A vintage quilt. You can find them all over America, but I’m partial to my hometown’s Pennsylvania Dutch quilts. They are pieces of history to cherish, preserve and pass onto the next generation.

My lucky charm

Tory Burch’s father zippo lighter necklace

I wear my dad’s gold Zippo lighter on a necklace for good luck. It is covered with charms and talismans he added over the years – a horseshoe, a bumblebee, a four-leaf clover.

My favourite hotels in the world

I have the best memories of holidays at Claridge’s in London with my parents and brothers when we were little. Last year, I stayed at Raffles Singapore on a business trip, and it was extraordinary. It was also my first time in Asia since the pandemic, and I was so thrilled to be back.

My bucket-list travel destination

The pastoral landscape of Bhutan

A trek through Bhutan has been on my list for years. I’m drawn to the landscape, the spirituality and the people, considered among the happiest on Earth. And before you even land, you get epic views of Mount Everest and K2 from the plane.

My style icon

Lee Radziwill was genuinely effortless – she always looked like herself, never complicated or overdone. But I am also inspired by the women I see every day in New York. I’m just as intrigued by what someone wears to walk the dog as I am by the outfit they put together for a party.

My designs

Tory Burch Pierced mules

I absolutely love the sculptural lines of our Pierced shoe collection, and for spring 2024, we introduced a new curved wedge. It makes a surreal statement, but is super comfortable and works with virtually everything, from wide-leg trousers to a minidress.
