  • Sheraton’s family ‘farmcation’ package offers a new way to experience the outdoors – through a workshop at an organic fruit and vegetable farm in Mui Wo
  • Rosewood Hong Kong’s ‘staycation for good’ programme kicked off with a stay focusing on environmental impact, with an NGO partnership to follow

The hotel staycation is something we have become all too familiar with, but now there’s a new version of the pandemic-related holiday trend in Hong Kong – the “farmcation”. The city may not have any hotels set in a working farm, but there is an increasing number of packages that include visits to farms or nature based excursions.

Experience the “family farmcation” package at Sheraton Hong Kong Tung Chung Hotel. The offer promises a hands-on experience at Winnie the Farm, an organic fruit and vegetable farm located in a village in Mui Wo. Hosted by the farm’s owner Winnie Kong, guests participate in an engagement workshop, while learning more about seasonal farming and food waste solutions.

Priced from HK$2,100 (US$270) for a deluxe room, the package also includes one-night stay, a low-carbon set dinner for two, breakfast for two, and a one-way transfer to the farm. This package is available until December 31.

Rosewood Hong Kong has recently launched its “staycation for good” programme, which aims to offer “meaningful stays that take families on journeys of insight and contribution to relieve pressing environmental and social issues”.

The first of these packages took place last month and focused on fun and interactive ways to learn about ethical food production, food waste, and how to minimise one’s environmental impact.

The second in the series will take place between December 18-20 and will revolve around “empowering underprivileged families” in partnership with relevant NGOs. Details are yet to be confirmed.
