Four Seasons Hotel New York offers free rooms for medical personnel, Singapore’s Grand Park City Hall hosts its Malaysian staff and other hotels are stepping up to help during the global pandemic

The coronavirus pandemic is hitting the hotel industry hard. As a result, many high-end hotels have been forced to cease their operations. But some establishments have recently proven they are more than just purveyors of luxury tourism. From providing free accommodation for medical frontliners to having their interiors temporarily converted into hospital rooms, these luxury hotels are using their influence – and beautiful spaces – for a good cause.

In response to New York City’s status as an epicentre of the coronavirus, Four Seasons Hotel New York is offering free accommodation for the city’s doctors, nurses and medical staff. The move came into effect following an announcement made by New York governor Andrew Cuomo.

The hotel’s location is considered an ideal stop for many medical staff. Located on 57th Street between Madison Avenue and Park Avenue, it is close to many of the city’s hospitals, including Mount Sinai, NYU Langone, Bellevue and Weill Cornell Medical Center.

2. Grand Park City Hall in Singapore

In light of Singapore’s movement restriction order, Grand Park City Hall has decided to open its rooms to its Malaysian employees who cross the Malaysia-Singapore border daily for work. The option is necessary, as 10 per cent of the hotel’s Malaysian staff do not live in the country. The hotel is just one of many in Singapore that have joined the cause to accommodate their non-resident Malaysian workers.
