To help prove it, we’ve put together six music videos from China calling for love and support amid the global pandemic. We hope the melodies will bring you comfort and hope.
Stay With You, by JJ Lin and Stefanie Sun
Singaporean pop stars JJ Lin and Stephanie Sun were among the first musicians to support the situation with music. Specifically, their new song Stay With You was dedicated to the medical staff fighting the virus on the front lines. Released on January 28, the music video has now gained more than 1.4 million views on YouTube and more than 2 million likes on Chinese social media platform Weibo. The prime minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong, reposted this video on his Facebook, thanking the singers “for using your musical gifts to lift our spirits, and remind us to unite and get through this together”.
Angels (平凡天使), by G.E.M.
Inspired by an anonymous Chinese resident who donated 500 masks to their local police station, Hong Kong singer G.E.M. wrote this song to pay tribute to the heroes around us – such as the Wuhan girl who voluntarily made 800 meals per day for nearby hospitals, the mother and daughter who delivered sanitisers to railway station staff and citizens who distributed free masks at airports.
The video that celebrates “ordinary angels” has generated more than 4 million views on YouTube. It is a great reminder that every one of us can help with the situation, which delivers a powerful and hopeful message at such moments.
