Crash Landing On You’s biggest plot holes – sorry, but Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin’s star-crossed lovers wouldn’t really work in real life
From unrealistic scenarios to questionable plot lines, the popular Korean drama, now on Netflix, doesn’t quite show a smooth love affair between Se-ri and Jung-hyuk – but we still adore it, anyway
Crash Landing On You had every element to make the perfect Romeo and Juliet love story. Star-crossed lovers separated by a border and their respective nationalities – heartbreaking, but realistic enough. Or was it? At STYLE, we've rounded up a few plot holes that will make you want to watch the entire series, all over again. Not seen it yet? Spoiler alert!
1. How does Se-ri's parachute work a second time?
When chaebol (wealthy business heiress) Yoon Se-ri crash-landed into the Korean Demilitarized Zone, her parachute was probably damaged by the unexpected landing. The second time around, Se-ri decided to escape from North Korea the same way she went in – with paragliding equipment salvaged from the crash scene. How is her parachute working so seamlessly the second time, to the point that it could hold the weight of an additional person (Jung-hyuk)?
Also, not to pick holes, but how did Se-ri's hair stay immaculately gorgeous as she paraglided down with Jung-hyuk? Maybe she found a really good hair pomade in North Korea?
2. Why couldn't Jung-hyuk and Se-ri recognise each other from the trip to Switzerland?
Neither Jung-hyuk nor Se-ri could recognise each other throughout most of the series, despite meeting at several significant moments in their lives. Se-ri was about to end her life. Meanwhile, Jung-hyuk was pursuing his musical dreams and on a holiday with his betrothed – which must have been important to them because it is not easy for North Koreans to travel overseas, even when they're well-connected.
As Se-ri was about to take the fatal leap, Jung-hyuk stops her and asks if she could take a picture of him and Seo Dan. Why couldn't they recognise each other? Our hunch is that Se-ri probably didn't recognise a stranger in her distraught state. Jung-hyuk probably recognised her later in the series but didn't mention it. Still, Se-ri even thinks out loud that Jung-hyuk could do so much better, which brings us to our next point.
