King Maha Vajiralongkorn may be the richest person in Thailand – but which 31 Thai entrepreneurs have become billionaires through business?

Charoen Pokphand’s senior chairman Dhanin Chearavanont tops Thailand rich list, followed by ThaiBev’s Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi

With an estimated net worth of US$16.9 billion, Dhanin Chearavanont is the wealthiest person in Thailand, according to CEOWorld Magazine’s Thailand Rich List Index for 2019.

Chearavanont is the senior chairman of Charoen Pokphand Group (CP), one of the world’s largest producers of animal feed and livestock. The number two spot was occupied by Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi with a net worth of US$16.6 billion. The self-made billionaire runs Thailand’s largest brewer, Thai Beverage, known for its Chang beer.

Gulf Energy Development CEO Sarath Ratanavadi sits in third place with US$9 billion, while Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha and Sumet Jiaravanon rounded up the top five wealthiest people in Thailand with US$5 billion and US$4.6 billion, respectively. Jaran Chiaravanont holds the sixth spot with a whopping net worth of US$4.5 billion. Jaran Chiaravanont is the eldest of four brothers behind CP.

The list focuses on independent business wealth. Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn, officially known as King Rama X, is the richest royal in the world, with an estimated fortune of US$43 billion.

According to the financial publication’s annual listing, 2019 saw the total wealth of the top 10 richest people in Thailand hit a record high of US$70.9 billion.

To identify the wealthiest people in Thailand, CEOWorld Magazine reviewed numerous national and international media reports. Additional information about the billionaires came from Forbes’ global index, the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Hurun Report’s rich list and the magazine’s own wealth index.

The Thailand Rich list was compiled using shareholding and financial information obtained from media reports and individuals, analysts, stock exchanges and regulatory agencies. This list encompasses family fortunes, including those shared among extended families of multiple generations. The minimum to make the list was US$1.1 billion.
