As Spider-Man swings out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, here are 5 things to know about actor Tom Holland, who played the superhero
The English star, who first achieved fame as a dancer, took on the role of Peter Parker – also known by his superhero alter-ego Spider-Man – in 2016, and found himself on his way to getting caught in a tangled web between Marvel and Sony
It’s official: After three blockbuster movies, Spider-Man is swinging out of the beloved Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The popular comic book character re-joined Iron Man, Captain America and the rest of Marvel’s iconic staple of superheroes in 2016, when Tom Holland became Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War.
The young British actor took over playing Peter Parker from previous Spider-Man lead stars Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, rebooting the franchise in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, and reprising the role in hit Marvel ensemble blockbusters Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and this year’s Avengers: Endgame.
But now following the success of summer smash Spider-Man: Far From Home, Sony Pictures – which owns the Spider-Man character – has announced Parker will no long appear in the Disney-owned MCU series, according to widespread industry reports.
As Holland prepares to take Spider-Man solo, here’s five things you should probably know about the 23-year-old British star.
