Two rare vintage Macallan bottles to headline Bonhams’ wine and whisky auction in May
Each whisky is estimated to fetch HK$3.6 million to HK$4.6 million (US$461,540 – US$589,740)
Bonhams will hold its Fine and Rare Wine and Whisky Sale on May 18 in Hong Kong. The highlights of the auction will be two rare vintage Macallan bottles that have not been seen in public since they were auctioned in the 1980s – the 60-year-old 1926 (Peter Blake Label) and the 60- year-old 1926 (Adami Label).
Each whisky is estimated to fetch HK$3.6 million to HK$4.6 million (US$461,540 – US$589,740).
If the two whiskies fetch the high end of the estimated prices, then the transactions will set a world record.
The whisky, bottled in 1986, has unique designs. Pop artists Peter Blake and Valerio Adami were commisioned by Macallan to design the bottle labels.
Only 24 bottles – 12 of the Blake label and 12 of the Adami label – were ever produced.
Daniel Lam, Bonhams’ head of Fine Wine and Whisky in Hong Kong, comments: “We are delighted to feature the rarest Macallan in our upcoming May auction, which offers a once-in-a-generation opportunity for collectors to acquire the Holy Grail of Macallan alongside an exceptional depth and breadth of selection of wines and whiskies.”
